About the school
Serere Secondary School was founded in 1982 by the Church of Uganda, Soroti Diocese, as a community school and has been government grant-aided since its inception.
Located in the heart of Serere District, the school was established to provide affordable, quality secondary education to learners, particularly those from rural and underserved communities within Serere and beyond.
The school began with just 35 students — 7 female and 28 male — and 11 teachers, only three of whom were professionally qualified. Since then, Serere Secondary School has grown significantly in both enrolment and staffing.

Our History
Founded in 1982 by the Church of Uganda, Soroti Diocese, Serere Secondary School began as a community school with just 35 students and 11 teachers. It was established to provide affordable, quality secondary education to learners in Serere and surrounding rural communities.
Over the years, the school has grown significantly through the support of government, the Church, parents, staff and the wider community. In 2002, it expanded to offer Advanced Level education, and in 2012, a mini-boarding section was introduced to improve learner safety, attendance, punctuality and access to instructional time.
Today, Serere Secondary School continues to provide holistic education while building on a proud history of academic growth, character development and community service.
